Symptoms

Wolf outdoor grill problems we fix in Tampa

  • An igniter that glows but the burner never lights
  • Yellow, weak or uneven flames
  • Rotisserie motor that stalls under load
  • Infrared rotisserie or sear burner glowing in patches
  • Grill stuck at moderate heat with the lid closed

Cause

Why it happens

Spiders nest in burner venturis during idle months, choking the gas-air mix and sometimes causing flashback toward the valves. Pushing a knob closes a valve micro-switch that powers a hot-surface igniter, so a tripped GFCI, corroded terminal or cracked igniter stops ignition. Stainless burner tubes thin from inside until ports merge.

What the technician does

  • Venturis inspected for webs, nests and flashback damage
  • Ignition tested: GFCI outlet, valve micro-switches, hot-surface igniters, flash tubes
  • Burner tubes, briquette trays and infrared burners checked for burn-through
  • Supply pressure measured, flames set for your fuel, connections leak-tested

Call right away if

  • Flame or scorching behind the control panel, or melted knobs
  • A burner tube with holes, or flames from its side

Between visits

  • Inspect venturis each season or after idle stretches; clear webs with a venturi brush.
  • Open the propane tank valve slowly with all knobs off to avoid tripping the excess-flow feature.

Repair or replace?

Most grills are worth repairing, since wearing parts swap individually and a new built-in must match the island cutout. When tubes, trays, firebox and frame have all corroded, replacement is the honest answer.

Wolf models we work on

Built-in and cart Wolf gas grills, 30 to 54 inches, their infrared burners, plus side burner and burner modules, on natural gas or propane.

Questions

Wolf outdoor grill repair questions

My Wolf grill will not light. What should I check?

Check that the gas is on and the GFCI outlet has not tripped, since the igniters run on household power. Otherwise, suspect an igniter, micro-switch or blocked venturi.

Why did fire come out near the knobs?

That is flashback, usually from a web or nest blocking a venturi. Shut off the burners and gas, and do not use the grill until it is cleared and inspected.

Can my grill switch between natural gas and propane?

Usually, with the manufacturer’s conversion parts for that model. We verify that a grill matches its gas supply and check earlier conversions part by part; a mismatched grill should not be used.
