Symptoms
Wolf cooktop faults we repair
- Induction zone fading during long cooking
- A zone flashing instead of heating
- Touch controls that lag, beep without responding or lock
- Breaker tripping on one zone or on boost
- Cracked, chipped or pitted glass
Cause
Why it happens
Induction boards are cooled by a fan that typically draws air from the cabinet below. A packed drawer, dust or an oven underneath starves it, and the boards cut power to protect themselves. Two dead zones often share a board; a single dead zone points to its coil, sensor or wiring.
What the technician does
- Supply voltage, breaker size and the junction box connection checked
- Cookware tried with a magnet and a reference pan
- Induction zones run under load while fan speed and airflow are watched
- Gas models: electrodes and spark module tested, opened fittings leak-checked
Call right away if
- Cracked or broken glass on an induction or radiant cooktop
- A zone that will not turn off, or a burning smell under the counter
- A gas smell with burners off; if strong, leave and call the gas utility or 911 from outside
Between visits
- Keep the space under an induction cooktop as open as the installation guide specifies.
- Clear sugary spills promptly with a flat glass scraper while still warm.
Repair or replace?
Gas and radiant repairs nearly always beat replacement. On induction, power boards and glass are the costly parts, yet one failed board on a sound cooktop is usually worth replacing.
Wolf models we work on
Wolf gas cooktops in professional, transitional and contemporary styles, induction and electric radiant cooktops, compact to 36 inches, plus earlier generations.
Questions
Wolf cooktop repair questions
Can I use a cooktop with cracked glass?
No. Even a hairline crack can let liquid reach live electronics. Switch it off at the breaker until the glass is replaced; replacement glass exists for many Wolf models.
Is the buzzing from my induction cooktop a problem?
Usually not. A hum at high settings typically comes from cookware vibrating in the field. Grinding, rattling or crackling under the glass is worth a visit.
Which pans work on a Wolf induction cooktop?
Pans with a flat magnetic base: cast iron, enameled cast iron and most induction-ready stainless. If a magnet barely holds to the base, try another pan before suspecting the cooktop.
