Symptoms
Miele washer and dryer problems we fix
- Drainage or water-intake fault mid-program
- Door locked with water in the drum
- Rumbling, knocking or walking in spin
- Cold wash water, poorly cleaned loads
- T1 dryer running long, laundry still damp
Cause
Why it happens
Many washer faults start at the drain filter behind the bottom-front flap: clogged with coins or underwire, it slows draining until the program aborts. Scale makes the heater overheat and open, and a weeping shaft seal lets water reach the rear bearings. The T1 dryer recirculates air in a closed loop, so skipped filters let lint pack its heat exchanger.
What the technician does
- Read the code, fault history and where the program stopped
- Check the drain filter and pump impeller before the motor
- Run valve, pump, heater and lock through built-in tests
- On dryers, check filters, exchanger fins, condensate pump and sensors
Call right away if
- Water leaking onto the floor or into a stacked pair’s base
- A burning smell, tripped breaker or scorched wiring
- Sudden grinding or banging in spin
Between visits
- Every two or three months, clean the drain filter over a shallow dish.
- Clear the dryer’s door filters after every load; rinse the plinth filter when prompted.
Repair or replace?
Miele builds its laundry for a long service life, so replacing a drain pump, door lock or heater usually makes sense. Borderline cases: a washer run on failing bearings until the drum spider or shaft is damaged, or a failed compressor on an older dryer.
Miele models we work on
W1 washers, including TwinDos and CapDosing models, and T1 heat-pump dryers. Earlier Miele laundry where parts remain available.
Questions
Miele washer & dryer repair questions
My washer stopped with water in the drum. What now?
Note the code, switch off and let hot water cool. Slowly open the bottom-front drain filter over towels and a dish. Still not draining? The pump or pressure sensor needs testing.
Why does my T1 dryer take so long now?
Usually lint: rinse the door and plinth filters and run a normal load. If drying stays slow, the heat exchanger may need cleaning or a sensor may be misreading.
The washer is loud in spin. Is it the bearings?
Check that transit bars were removed after a move and the machine is level. A rumble rising with drum speed points to bearings; a thud as spin starts, to worn shock absorbers.
